The Marico Innovation Foundation named Su-Kam Power Systems among the winners of its ‘Innovation for India’ Award — India’s most prestigious recognition for indigenous product innovation. The award places Kunwer Sachdev alongside the small group of Indian founders whose innovations reshaped their category from the ground up.

Why Su-Kam won

Su-Kam was recognised for the plastic-body inverter — a design nobody in the world had built before Kunwer Sachdev did. The plastic body cut cost, weight and thermal issues in one stroke, made distribution easier for a country with fragmented last-mile logistics, and became the visual signature of Indian home inverters for the next two decades. India Today separately named it ‘Innovation of the Decade’.

“Every product Su-Kam built was a first for India. Innovation is not copying what exists elsewhere — it is creating what your country needs.”
