The Shadow Over Su-Kam: A Founder’s Personal Struggles and Their Impact
My years working alongside Kunwer Sachdev at Su-Kam are etched in memory. I witnessed firsthand the sheer force of his will as he poured his heart and soul into building that company, brick by painstaking brick. Those early days were fueled by an almost palpable passion—a relentless drive that inspired everyone around him.
Yet even in the midst of that intensity, there was always a quiet undercurrent in his personal life. His first wife, a dedicated schoolteacher, was building her own world while Kunwer remained consumed by Su-Kam. Their lives seemed parallel rather than shared, and I often sensed an unspoken sadness behind his outward strength—an absence of companionship in his greatest victories.
That undercurrent became impossible to ignore when she stepped into the company as Head of HR. The transition was sudden, and its effect on the organization was profound. The vibrant, collaborative energy we had once thrived on seemed to wane, giving way to an atmosphere of unease. It wasn’t the growth we had envisioned; instead, it felt as though the very spirit of Su-Kam was being tested. Observing Kunwer during this period was difficult—the weight of personal and professional pressures bore heavily on his shoulders, dimming the buoyant spark that once defined him.

The eventual unraveling of his marriage was anything but quiet. Beginning around 2009, the divorce became a protracted and painful public battle that stretched over seven years. Those who had once drawn strength from Kunwer’s optimism now watched a flame slowly flicker. The tireless visionary seemed subdued, retreating inward, and the company’s atmosphere mirrored that shift. For those of us who had been there since the beginning, it felt like witnessing a dream lose its brightest light.
But then, like the dawn after a storm, Khushboo Mehrotra entered his life. Their marriage in 2016 was nothing short of a rebirth for him. With Khushboo—now Khushboo Sachdev—came a sense of calm, balance, and renewal. Slowly, the spark returned to Kunwer’s eyes. The arrival of their twins, Advait and Swastika, became the most beautiful symbol of this fresh beginning. Where once there was strain, there was now joy; where once there was silence, there was laughter again.

Kunwer’s devotion to family never wavered. His sons from his first marriage, Kanav and Shourrya Sachdeva, have grown into their own paths, and I always sensed his quiet pride in them. Today, with Khushboo by his side and the twins bringing boundless energy to his life, Kunwer exudes a completeness that had long seemed elusive.
Looking back, his story is more than that of an entrepreneur; it is a deeply human journey. It reminds us that even the most driven individuals cannot remain untouched by the storms of personal life. I witnessed his rise as a fearless innovator, his struggles through years of emotional turmoil, and finally, his gentle rediscovery of happiness.
It is a story of resilience, of family as both wound and healing, and of how even after the darkest nights, light can return—and burn brighter than before.
