My Vision, My Journey: The Su-Kam Fairy Queen – An Inverter for Your Drawing Room
Hello everyone. I’m Kunwer Sachdev, and for years, my mission at Su-Kam was to bring reliable power to every home. But my ambition stretched beyond mere functionality. I believed that even a utilitarian device like an inverter could be a source of pride, something you wouldn’t want to hide, but rather display. This was the driving philosophy behind one of our most unique creations: the Su-Kam Fairy Queen inverter.

You see, for too long, inverters were designed as clunky, beige boxes, tucked away in utility rooms or under staircases. They were a necessary evil during power cuts, but certainly not something you’d proudly showcase. This bothered me. I kept thinking, “Why can’t power backup be elegant? Why can’t it be a part of the home’s aesthetic, especially in a place as central as the drawing room?”
This thought ignited a passionate brainstorming session with my design and engineering teams. We threw out countless ideas, sketching, debating, and refining. We wanted something iconic, something that evoked a sense of history and charm, yet was thoroughly modern in its purpose. After much deliberation, the idea solidified: a locomotive engine. It was bold, it was distinct, and it carried a sense of timeless adventure. This wasn’t just an inverter; it was a conversation piece, an objet d’art for your living space.

But the beauty was never just skin deep. My commitment to quality meant the Fairy Queen was also a powerhouse of technology. We integrated our signature Pure Sine Wave output to ensure that all your delicate electronics – your TV, your sound system, your computer – ran smoothly and silently, without any hum or damage. It had intelligent battery management to extend battery life and provide efficient charging, and of course, it carried the inherent reliability and robustness that Su-Kam was known for. It was engineered to perform flawlessly while looking stunning.
Yet, even the most innovative ideas face unexpected challenges. With the Fairy Queen, our biggest hurdle came not from its internal technology, but from something as fundamental as packaging. Despite our meticulous design and testing, the unique, delicate shape of the locomotive-inspired body proved difficult to protect adequately during transit. Many units, to my dismay, arrived at customers’ homes damaged.
This was a tough pill to swallow. It meant that a product designed to be a centerpiece, to evoke pride the moment it arrived, was sometimes failing before it even reached its intended drawing room. It was a crucial, albeit painful, lesson for me and for Su-Kam: innovation extends to every single touchpoint, including how a product reaches the customer’s hands. It pushed us to rethink our logistics and packaging processes entirely for future products.
The Su-Kam Fairy Queen remains a special project for me. It represents a time when we dared to dream beyond the conventional, to infuse technology with artistry, and to create something truly unique for the home. It taught us invaluable lessons, but more importantly, it was born from a genuine desire to offer people not just power, but a product they would be genuinely proud to display in their drawing rooms.
Did you ever see the Fairy Queen inverter? I’d love to hear your thoughts on its unique design!
A Final Note
While I look back fondly on the innovations and journey we undertook with products like the Fairy Queen, I also want to clarify that I am no longer associated with Su-Kam. My path has led me to new ventures and challenges, but the spirit of innovation and the pursuit of impactful solutions that drove projects like the Fairy Queen continue to guide my work.
